The Meade County Archeological Society was formed February 2008 with the intent to locate and document archaeological sites, both historic and prehistoric. Meade County has several Native American sites which are being destroyed at an alarming rate.
We want the society to be inclusive and appeal to collector types as well as those interested in the science, with the main idea to educate the public about the importance or protecting these diminishing resources. Lastly we wanted to get together a community of friends with similar interests, and acquaintances just to have fun.
Later on, we found that a number of our members are interested in tracing family trees, the Civil War and other historic matters; therefore, we have expanded our original focus to include these topics.
Except for February meetings, we meet on the first Monday of each month at 6 pm in the library annex. Our meetings are scheduled to end by 7:30 pm. We normally have speakers and a question and answer period. Often authors that speak will have a book signing at the meeting, and speakers sometimes have displays to go along with their talk.
If you have any questions, feel free to email us.
